Walter's Lobby Card Collection |
|---|
This collection was formed over a period of years focusing on the silent era and the dawn of the talking film, because the lobby cards of that period had the most striking inventiveness, wild graphics, and rich colors. Each studio had a distinctive house style, and, even within a studio, the style could vary from one year to another. Specifically singling out cards from Paramount and Warner Brothers for special listing here, virtually all major and lesser studios are represented in this collection. Lobby cards were first seen in 1914, and they were already on cardboard paper stock and 11 x 14 inches. During the 1910's, almost all lobby cards were simply produced objects. This collection contains a few very scarce examples of decorative art on cards of the teens. And then, as the art of the lobby card begins to flower in the early 1920's, I have archived many examples of the rich and astonishing diversity of these pieces.
